13th birthday heaven

We recently ran a 13th birthday giveaway with a group of totally amazing small businesses. It was so successful – and the prize was so loved – that we thought we’d add their details to our blog as inspiration for the perfect thirteenth birthday celebrations.

First up is the truly fabulous Kirsty from Oh My Cakery. Kirsty is as entertaining as she’s talented and we highly recommend following her on socials for total foodie heaven. Kirsty made our lucky winner her most popular birthday cake for teens and it was absolutely stunning. If you’re within driving distance of Milton Keynes, then look no further when you’re ordering your cake of dreams.

Birthdays need balloons, right? And the second of our brilliant small businesses specialises in balloon displays, letter lights and organised themed events that will make any party shine, as well as gorgeous personalised balloons like this one. Check out their Instagram account: Perfect Occasion Planning.

Next up is Neon Marl.  If you’re looking for a 13th birthday gift with a difference, this is a great place to start. Run by the very lovely Amber, it specialises in sweatshirts, T-shirts and hoodies in simple, modern silhouettes, hand-printed with super cool designs in shiny metallic or bright neon.

Last but very definitely not least is Carways Candy, another of our top recommendations. We’ve worked with Emma for a while now and she always goes the extra mile – nothing is ever too much trouble. Her sweets and chocolate are beautifully presented and come in combinations that taste divine. Perfect for gifts, party take-home presents or just a regular family treat.

And there you have it – four independent, creative businesses that will give a 13th birthday a really individual feel. We added some of the products from our Teenage Birthdays Collection to the giveaway prize, of course – we like to think it’s the best place to start when planning a teenage birthday!

If you have a favourite small business, we’d love to hear about it, so please do leave us a comment.

You know how I feel about this. I think a balance is important, kids do sometimes need a bit of a kick to get them off their phones or out of their beds. But I hate the view that teenagers are lazy, painful individuals. They are fascinating, kind usually, and so smart. I’ve never had anything but positive results from telling mine how amazing they are.

I have a teen in the midst of GCSE revision. I’m not sure anything I say motivates him greatly. I agree food is key, helping organise him and assisting with revision timetables has definitely helped, however when I asked him how I had helped motivate him best, he said that the conversation we had about visualising himself on results day and what the end result would be has stuck in his head most. This surprised me! I guess they never stop surprising us! Sometimes in a good way, sometimes not so good!

Haha, fantastic! I loved reading through all these stories, and I have to say I think my parties were quite tame… apart from the obvious vomiting story here and there ????????‍♀️ Xx

What brilliant ideas for those all important teen milestones! I’m grateful that I no longer need to rack my brain for ideas as all around we will be hitting these birthdays soon. Thank you so much ????
