Dear Hector
We never met you but you have touched our lives, as you have touched so many. Today marks 10 years since the world lost you to suicide and we’re writing to tell you what you mean to us.
Not long after we chose to support the amazing charity that has been set up in your name, we knew that we’d made a brilliant choice. The work that is done by your family and their colleagues and friends is life-changing to those that need help and utterly inspiring to the rest of us. We can honestly say that we’ve got as much from supporting Hector’s House as we’ve contributed. We’re better, more aware, happier people for it.
The charity’s message is so accessible to all but most especially to young people, who can be sceptical of buzz words and trends and doubtful that they deserve attention. We love that the advice is so clear and friendly. And that it’s rooted in techniques that aren’t expensive or difficult. An emphasis on healthy eating, nature and movement is just what we think teenagers and young adults need.
Hector’s House manages to deal with depression, anxiety and pain in a way that is always uplifting, positive and joyful. And we feel we know you a little through their wonderful posts and stories about you. The blog that Lotte wrote for us makes us truly happy every time we read it. You must have been a very special person for them to have gone through such heartbreak and still manage to put a smile on our faces when we see a picture of you pop up on their Instagram feed – the love they feel for you and the joy you brought to their lives just shines through.
Your legacy is something to be so proud of. So many lives saved, so many desperate voices heard just when they needed to be. How wonderful to have had something so meaningful created to reflect the generous, kind, amazing boy you so clearly were.
With love
Louise & Anna x
