The ‘great protector’ porcupine

Introducing our new clothing design… the ‘great protector’ porcupine.

We launched our first clothing collection in summer 2020, and since then the runaway bestsellers have been our Hummingbird T-shirts and sweatshirts. This has made us very happy, as the hummingbird is part of our logo and means a lot to us.

We decided to add a new design for 2021 and the obvious choice was another iconic animal or bird. We wanted something as symbolic and meaningful as the hummingbird. After a lot of research and discussion with our teen panel, we settled on the porcupine. And we are already in love.

The ‘great protector’

The porcupine walks with you when you feel apprehensive or vulnerable, especially in new situations.

The porcupine symbolises the power of trusting in and protecting ourselves. Your porcupine friend is there to remind you to have faith in yourself to be who you truly are and not to let your own doubt or other people’s opinions stop you.

The porcupine will guard you against uncertainty and support you when you need to overcome limitations or are experiencing adversity and stress. Strong on the outside, soft on the inside, and living life calmly and purposefully.

And the porcupine is friendly, curious, humble, honest and brave. Quite the combination!

Porcupine fun facts

Porcupine means ‘thorn pig’

One porcupine can have up to 30,000 quills on its back to provide protection from predators

Their quills are coated with powerful natural antibiotics – not to protect their predators, of course, but for their own safety. Apparently, they stab themselves falling out of trees quite often ?

They’re good swimmers and in some species, their air-filled quills give them a buoyancy boost as they swim.

Baby porcupines are called ‘porcupettes’ ?
